The Preferred Provider Organization, otherwise known as a PPO, is a plan that has a network of health care providers contracted to offer services at a discounted price. Within a PPO plan, members have the flexibility to seek care from doctors’ in-network or out-of-network. If a member chooses to seek care from an out-of-network doctor they may pay more money out-of-pocketas there are incentives to seek care from preferred providers.
The Exclusive Provider Organization, otherwise known as an EPO, offers the freedom of our PPO but without out-of-network benefits. Members may see any doctor or specialist within the EPO network, without a referral and without choosing a personal care physician or PCP.
While PPO & EPO members do not need to select a PCP, we do recommend that they choose one. It’s better in the long run to have this partner in health.
HAP PPO & EPO plans are sold in the 23-county service area that includes: Arenac, Bay, Clare, Genesee, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron, Iosco, Isabella, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Midland, Monroe, Oakland, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Saginaw, Sanilac, St. Clair, Tuscola, Washtenaw and Wayne.
Our statewide network provides in-network options across the state to PPO & EPO members. Outside of the state of Michigan, members can access CIGNA or other affiliated national networks for in-network options and discounts.
Our PPO & EPO plan choices offer a wide range of benefit designs that include incentives to seek care from preferred (in-network) providers.*
